Tablet Based Video Magnifiers
Tablet Based Video Magnifiers
Video magnifiers and resources listed on this page are "tablet based", meaning the majority of the processing power is provided by a tablet of some sort.
Tablet based solutions have become increasingly popular for those creating and using assistive technology since it allows (and encourages) smaller tech companies to acquire many of the major components for their products (such as the tablet and camera) and incorporate their own proprietary OCR software and develop/market the package as a unique custom solution.
This approach can cut down on duplication of devices and often reduce costs by eliminating unnecessary redundancies such as an additional video magnifiers when a camera added to a tablet will do the same job while utilizing less physical space and cognitive load by the user.
Please note: The MATT Connect and Connect 12 are both manufactured by the same company (Humanware) and are extremely similar. Additionally, many of the resources provided are a collaborative effort by APH and Humanware. Therefore, resources for the two devices are combined under one category for convenience.
Additionally, resources provided here apply to the Android version of the Prodigi Software, which is installed on both the MATT Connect and Connect 12 tablets.
Please note that important information such as up to date user guides can be found on the APH Product Page
Please note that resources related to the hardware and operating system of the Prodigi are not gernally needed as the deivce runs from a Windows tablet.
Also, please keep in mind that Prodigi software is meant to be a low vision solution to enhance existing vision, so the user is expected to have remaining vision to be able to utilize the software effectively.
Please note that this playlist includes videos related to using the kit as well as instructional video about use of the included Prodigi software.
